The
Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) is engaged in the business
of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the
Kingdom of Swaziland. SEC operates four hydroelectric power stations;
Maguga Hydropower Station, Ezulwini Hydropower Station, Edwaleni
Hydropower Station, and Maguduza Hydropower Station all serving as
peaking and emergency power stations. These stations have a combined
installed generation capacity of 60.4 MW, and SEC´s internal
generation 15-17% of the total energy consumed in the country, with
the rest imported largely from ESKOM in South Africa, and some
from EDM in Mozambique.
- Although SEC owns 2 x 4.5 MW diesel engines at Edwaleni Power Station, due to their high operational costs, it is no longer financially viable to operate them.
- Maguga Power Station on the Komati River has a capacity of 19 MW
- Ezulwini Hydroelectric Power Station has a capacity of 20 MW
- Edwaleni Hydroelectric Power Station has a capacityof 15 MW.
- Maguduza Hydroelectric Power Station has acapacity of 5.6 MW .
